Jennifer’s good character helps her escape jail, but she is traumatised by the event. Desperate for a fresh start, and with her marriage buckling under the stress, she convinces her husband, Jon, to make a sea-change and move with their young son to Far North Queensland.
As Jon spends long hours at his new job and Jennifer makes secret plans to absolve her lingering guilt, cracks begin to form in their idyllic new life. Will their dark secret be exposed. And what really happened on the night of the accident?

What’s required to take those first tentative steps towards becoming a serious writer of fiction? How do aspiring writers actually begin to, you know, write? What do they write about? What does the ‘starting out’ stage of their writing actually look like? Out of the Vault is a collection of very short stories written early in Susannah’s creative writing career during her time with the Writer’s Studio in Sydney. Targeting fellow emerging writers of fiction, Out of the Vault aims to inspire others to begin writing by sharing the story of Susannah’s own journey as well as her own early works – in all their imperfect glory.
